The clear body fits to the cap with a bayonet clip which allows the case to be reversed and used as a holder for the thermometer to avoid contact with the material being tested. Since mercury is no longer preferred as the filling liquid, due to its potential hazard, Brannan have developed a blue colored alternative LO-tox TM filling combining high legibility and accuracy with low levels of hazard.
